The Naomi Project’s core mission is to change the lives of families going through domestic abuse after making the choice not to return to their abuser. In the state of South Carolina, we have observed helplessly as victims felt forced to return to the abusive relationships for financial security, lack of jobs, and other skills necessary to lead a self-sufficient life. In the Bible, the Book of Ruth tells of Naomi, who guided Ruth to become a strong woman who eventually owned the fields she gleaned in. Our responsibility is to provide the basic needs (food, shelter and clothing) and other necessities to help the client become a fully, independent, contributing member of our community – not part of a system. Our program is offered at minimal cost to qualified clients who have demonstrated the initiative to escape the cycle of violence.

Our goal is to equip victims of domestic violence and their children with the skills necessary to reside in an environment free from violence that provides them with their basic needs and more to function independently. The Naomi Project is designed for clients who can benefit from long-term transitional housing coupled with educational, financial, emotional, mental and spiritual support. These clients will be given tools or referrals to other agencies that can ease their struggle for independence, such as basic needs, transportation, training, education, spirituality, and some extra curricular activities.

Clients may remain at The Naomi Project for up to 12 months, while receiving services geared toward assisting them in attaining self-sufficiency. The Naomi Project allows us to focus on a cure and not just treat the affliction, which will enable the clients to become self-reliant, self-actualized and self-sufficient.
